July 17, 2007 Red Sox 9, Royals 8 (11)

What looked to be a long day after the Royals rip Tim Wakefield for 11 hits, 7 runs and a 6-0 lead at one point turns into a Sox extra inning victory, with the only Sox lead of the game when it mattered - the final score. Kevin Youkilis, with a 4 for 5 day and singles in the 9th and 11th, got yhose singles at just the right time and helped in the Sox first tying the game in the 9th, then winning the game in the 11th.

First, entering the bottom of the 9th, the Red Sox are down 8-6. That did not last long as this happened:

*** BOTTOM OF INNING 9 ***

0 D.Ortiz 5- 9 3 Strike Out b-0
1 M.Ramirez 6-10 1 Single b-1
SUBSTITUTE PR- Wily Mo Pena

2 1 J.Varitek 4-11 5 Fly Out b-0

Then in the 11th, Youk strikes again. A leadoff single and a Mike Lowell ground out puts Youk to second. Coco Crisp rips a single with Youk stopping at 3rd, and then Jason Varitek gets a base hit with Youk scoring and give the Sox the hard fought walk off victory!!
