| The Phillie offense goes on cruise control as they open a can of whippas on the Pirates, with an 11 run first inning basically sealing the victory. In that first inning, Jimmy Rollins had two hits (single and 2-run homer), Ryan Howard smashed two homeruns (solo back-to-back with Rollins, and a 3-run smash) and Michael Bourn also got two hits (single and triple knocking in two, and a steal). Even pitcher Jamie Moyer helped his own cause with an RBI single and scoring a run in the first. Moyer already had the 11-0 lead to work with before he threw his first pitch of the game!! A bit of a different lineup, with Chase Utley going on the disabled list. Rollins went to third in the order, with Michael Bourn leading off and Abraham Nunez getting the start at second base.. Seemed to work like a charm apparently! Recently aquired Tadahito Iguchi makes his Phillie debut, coming in as a pinch-hitter and taking over at second. Brett Myers also just came off the DL, but didn't pitch today. First baseman Ryan Howard cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Pittsburgh
Pirates were badly beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies, 15 to 3.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Howard. He blasted a solo shot in the 1st inning, smacked a
three-run homer (his 27th of the season) in the 1st inning and laced a
one-base hit in the 4th inning. Philadelphia lit up the scoreboard in the
1st inning with 11 runs on 10 hits. Philadelphia had 17 hits overall, while
Pittsburgh had 10.
Jamie Moyer(8-8) allowed 2 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. John
Van Benschoten(1-4) was given the loss.
