| Not Tim Wakefield's greatest start, but with run support like this even Adam Eaton of the Phillies could get the win (and that is saying something!!) as the Red Sox demolish Chicago, nailing the coffin on the four game series sweep and leaving no dust behind. Just the 3rd inning alone would be the final score in most games, with 14 runs scored and a 9-5 Red Sox scoring advantage - just in the 3rd inning!!! Stars a plenty today, with Doug Mirabelli's first homer of the year in that 3rd inning (a grand salami!!) as he goes 2 for 5 knocking in 5. Jermaine Dye of the White Sox also in the 3rd inning ripped a 3 -run homer. Kevin Youkilis continues his recent torrid hotting, 4 for 6 knocking in 3. JD Drew has the strangest boxscore line I have ever seen - 2 4 0 0. He walked 3 times and reached base once on an error, scoring all 4 times. With a nice big lead David Ortiz, of all people, comes in as a defensive substitude in the latter stages at first base, as Youk plays the final two innings at third to spell Mike Lowell. Here is that crazy 3rd inning in print so you can see it for yourself. As I said, 14 runs and 22 batters bewteen the two teams. *** TOP OF INNING 3 *** 0 J.Uribe 6- 7 2 5 Double b-2 0 2 J.Owens 5- 7 5 Walk b-1 0 12 A.Cintron 5- 6 11 4 Single 2-H 1-3 b-1 0 1 3 J.Thome 6- 6 3 Fly Out b-0 1 1 3 P.Konerko 1- 2 6 Pop Out b-0 2 1 3 A.Pierzynsk 6- 5 2 Single 3-H 1-3 b-1 2 1 3 J.Dye 2- 9 6 5 Home Run 3-H 1-H b-H 2 R.Mackowiak 6- 4 3 Ground Out b-0 *** BOTTOM OF INNING 3 *** 0 J.Lugo 6- 7 9 4 Single b-1 0 1 C.Crisp 5- 8 5 Line Out b-0 1 1 A.Cora 3 Single 1-3 b-1 1 1 3 K.Youkilis 4- 8 17 4 Double 3-H 1-H b-2 1 2 M.Ramirez 5- 2 7 Walk b-1 1 12 J.Drew 2- 7 6 Walk 2-3 1-2 b-1 1 123 M.Lowell 5- 3 3 Single 3-H 2-H 1-3 b-1 1 1 3 E.Hinske 2-11 3 HBP 1-2 b-1 1 123 D.Mirabelli 1- 4 8 5 Home Run 3-H 2-H 1-H b-H SUBSTITUTE P - Charlie Haeger 1 J.Lugo 3- 9 4 Ground Out b-0 2 C.Crisp 6- 6 6 Walk b-1 2 1 1 Stolen Base 1-2 2 2 A.Cora 4- 6 6 Walk b-1 2 12 K.Youkilis 5- 7 1 Single 2-H 1-3 b-1 2 1 3 M.Ramirez 5- 7 4 Force Play 1-o b-1 |

Doug Mirabelli added four ribbies to his seasonal total with one swing of the
bat as the Boston Red Sox smashed the overmatched Chicago (AL) White Sox, 16
to 6.
Mirabelli enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He cleared the bases with a Grand
Slam homerun (his 1st of the season) in the 3rd inning and laced a base-hit
which scored a run in the 4th inning. Boston bats were hot in the 3rd inning
with 9 runs on 6 hits. Offensively, Boston was a juggernaut. They scored in
6 separate innings.
The win was credited to Tim Wakefield(7-9) who went 7 innings allowing 6 runs.
Jon Garland(6-7) ended up with the loss. He was touched for 7 hits and 2
walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.
