July 19, 2007 Padres 6, Phillies 0

The Phillies continue their West Coast swing with a stop in San Diego for four games, and they run right into a brick wall. The Pad's Chris Young totally dominates them, pitching a 3-hit shutout while whiffing 16 Phillies. That 16 strikeouts is the major league high for the year, breaking a three-way tie of 15. Another Padre, Jake Peavy, has two of those 15 strikeout games (in one of them he went 11 innings), and the other was by Eric Bedard of the Orioles.

Unfourtunately for the Phils, Jake Peavy will get the start for the Padres in the final game of this series.

Chris Young shut down the Philadelphia batters on just 3 hits at Petco Park
where the San Diego Padres beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6 to
0.

Young(13-3) was simply too much for the Philadelphia batters. He allowed only
3 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings. Young mowed down 16 Philadelphia batters.
San Diego had just 5 hits for the night.

Cole Hamels(5-10) took the loss. Bud Black was asked about the performance of
Young, 'He had his good stuff out there tonight. The fans really get into it
when the strikeouts start mounting up - and that seems to give him even more
adrenalin.'
