July 23, 2007 Indians 4, Red Sox 3

A six game winning streak remains the longest for the SOx on the year, as for the 5th time this season they are denied number 7. The normally dominant Sox bullpen coughs it up today, with Kelly Shoppach belting a two-run homerun off Hideki Okajima in the Indians 8th. Prior to today, Okajima had only allowed 5 runs in 50 innings pitched!

When I mean dominant bullpen, I mean dominant. For the season (including today), the Sox starters have a 4.68 ERA, while the relievers have a smokin' 2.46 ERA. That is one of the main reasons why the Phillies have been having so much trouble so far this season is the pitching staff. The Phils starters ERA is 5.22. If that's not bad enough, the relievers have an even worse 6.14 ERA! Which explains why the Phils team ERA is a major league worst 5.49. (Oops, scratch that. After so long as the worst, I thought they still were. I just checked, and Tampa Bay now has the worst at 5.55, but still worst in the NL for the Phils.)
