July 20, 2007 Padres 8, Phillies 6

The Phillies scored some runs this time and had the lead twice, but couldn't hold the lead either time. But then, no lead is safe when Adam Eaton starts the game. The Phils get 2 out of the gate in the 1st on a Jimmy Rollins homer, but the Pads get 3 of their own in the 3rd (two on a Milton Bradley homer - love that name!!) to take the 3-2 lead. Three more Phillie runs in the 5th via Ryan Howard's bases clearing double for a 5-3 lead, but again the Padres get 3 in the bottom of the 5th to retake the lead, 6-5. Bradley strikes again for what would prove to be two very important insurance runs in the 7th with his second homer of the day, this one off Tom Gordon, for the 8-5 Padre lead.

The Phillies do get to Trevor Hoffman in the 9th inning to make it interesting. Greg Dobbs hits a pinch hit single and Rod Barajas gets a walk. I was debating whether to have the speedy Michael Bourn pinch-run for one of them, but instead brought Bourn in to pinch-hit for the pitcher. Bourn flies out for out nimber one. Shane Victorino rips a single to score Dobbs from second and put Barajas at third. Now we have some speed at first representing the tying run. Jimmy Rollins rips a fly ball to left, but it is caught for a potential sac fly. 1-10 chance, 50-50, because Barajas, slow as hell, is on third. Two are already out, Hoffman on the mound, down by two, so I go for it. The split comes up a 16, Barajas is nailed at home, game over.

Milton Bradley blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the San Diego Padres
defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 8 to 6 at Petco Park.

The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Bradley. He cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the 3rd
inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 7th of the season) in the 7th
inning. Philadelphia had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up
short.

Justin Germano(8-3) got the win allowing 5 runs in 5 innings. Trevor Hoffman
was credited with his 26th save. Adam Eaton(4-12) suffered the loss. San
Diego scored big getting 6 runs off him in 5 innings.

'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Gary Lucas said. 'We did what
we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'
