| Josh Beckett is stellar once again pitching his second consecutive shutout, this time an 8-hitter, while striking out 11. Not quite as dominant as last start, when he allowed only 5 hits and whiffed 12, but a dominant performance nonetheless. Beckett also wins his 4th straight start, which is a big part of the team's recent hot pace. 45 strikeouts in 31 1/3 innings for Beckett in those last four starts, with the team playing at a 21-4 clip over the last 25 games. Nice having Beckett and the rest of the team finally playing like they should!! On offense, Manny Ramirez extends his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the 1st inning, and then adds a 3-run homerun in the 4th for all the runs that the Sox would need. |

Josh Beckett whiffed 11 batters as the Boston Red Sox outscored the Cleveland
Indians 6 to 0.
Beckett(11-4) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He didn't give up much,
just 8 hits and no walks in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.93 to 3.66.
Boston totaled 10 hits on the night.
The loss was charged to Fausto Carmona(9-6). Beckett didn't realize how many
strikeouts he was racking up. When told he had 11 he was obviously
surprised, 'No kidding? Man, I knew that I had a decent total, but I didn't
think I had K'd that many. Say, that's pretty good, isn't it?'
