June 29, 2007 Red Sox 11, Devil Rays 6

The long ball and the base on balls are the Sox friends today. Wily Mo Pena smashes 2 homeruns as part of a 4 for 5 day at the plate as he scores 4 times, Doug Mirabelli rips a 2-run homer and David Ortiz gets the granny off Scott Kasmir when Kasmir totally falls apart in the 3rd inning.

In that Sox 3rd, Kasmir got two of the first four hitters out with a single for Pena and walking Mirabelli in the mix. Then he just collapses, walking both Crisp and Pedroia with Pedroia's walk forcing a run. In comes Papi who rips it over the fence for the grand slam, ending Kasmir's day. 10 walks for the Rays pitchers today, twice walking batters with the bases loaded.

Not that Daisuke Matsuzaka was much better on the Sox side, but he does go the required 5 innings to earn the win despite allowing 6 runs and 10 hits for win number 11 on the year. Kyle Snyder, Javier Lopez and Manny Declarmen finish out the game for the Sox, holding the Rays to only two hits the rest of the way.

Wily Mo Pena ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Boston Red Sox topped the
Tampa Bay Devil Rays by a score of 11 to 6 at Tropicana Field.

Pena led the offense for Boston. He stroked a one-base hit in the 2nd inning,
delivered a base-hit in the 4th inning, cracked a two-run shot in the 5th
inning and blasted a solo shot (his 4th of the season) in the 9th inning.
Boston had a total of 14 hits for the game.

The win was credited to Daisuke Matsuzaka(11-5) who went 5 innings allowing 6
runs. The loss was charged to Scott Kazmir(8-7). He got hit pretty hard,
allowing 6 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.

'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch and swung,' Pena said. 'That's it'
