October 25, 2007 Braves 7, Angels 5 (11) (series tied, 1-1)

Chipper Jones of the Braves hasn't slowed down a bit from his co-MVP NLCS performance, as he went 2 for 4 last game and a big 4 for 6 today, with 2 huge hits. Eerie similar to yesterday;s game with a 2-1 Angels lead after 6 innings, but then all hell broke loose after that.

The Braves in the 7th inning get their first lead of the series with a 4 run outburst and a 5-2 lead when Andruw Jones doubles, Willie Harris knocks him in with a triple, Kelly Johnson gets a sac fly to score Harris and Chipper gets big hit #1 of the day, a 2-run homer. It looks like the lead will hold for the Braves, until the bottom of the 9th when what I thought was a shocking move by the Angels manager made him look like a genius.

With Rafael Soriano on the mound, Chone Figgins comes to the plate with one out and after a Reggie Willits walk and a Juan Rivera pinch-hit double puts runners on second and third. Instead of Figgins (who isn't a bad hitter, .330 in the real 2007 season) coming to the plate, Brandon Wood gets the call to pinch-hit. I was completely shocked by the move, considering Wood was a rookie who only batted .152 in 33 atbats in the real season in three callups during the year and was only on the roster because Macier Isuturis got injured for the remainder of the playoffs in the first round.

Wood though does what every rookie dreams of doing, as he rips a fly ball over the fence for the shocking 3-run homerun which ties the game back up, 5-5. I couldn't believe it. Apparently neither coulkd anyone else, as the 10th inning goes quietly. In the Braves 11th with Dustin Moseley just called in from the bullpen for the Angels, Edgar Renteria gets a single and then Chipper rips his second big hit, a 3-run homerun to give the braves the 7-5 lead that they do not relinquish. I had forgotten about Chipper's other hoimerun with all the excitement in the bottom of the 9th until I realized that he goes 4 for 6 at the plate knocking in 4 runs and smoking the two homers.

The series resumes in Atlanta after a well-deserved day off for travel, with game three pitchers being Jered Weaver for the Angels against the Braves' crafty veteran John Smoltz. The Braves are 5-1 in the playoffs so far at home.

Chipper Jones rocketed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Angels Stadium as the
Atlanta Braves beat the Los Angeles(AL) Angels in 11 innings 7 to 5.

The score was tied at 5 after nine. Atlanta won it in the 11th inning. After
two outs Edgar Renteria started the rally when he stroked a one-base hit.
Jones was next and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 5th of
the season). Atlanta had 13 hits for the night while Los Angeles(AL) had 9.

Rafael Soriano(2-0) went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Dustin
Moseley(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 runs in 1 inning
and saw his ERA jump from 3.75 to 4.85.

'I didn't feel that good when I came to the park tonight,' Jones said. 'I'm
glad I decided to play!'
