| The Red Sox have wasted their glorious chance to put the division away, as a Matt Stairs 8th inning homerun off of Kyle Snyder gives the Jays the 3-2 win and a sweep of the series. The Sox still control their own destiny, as they sit 6 1/2 ahead of the Blue Jays with 9 left to play (10 left to play for Toronto). Remaining games for the Sox - a 3 game series in Tampa, and close the season at home with two against Oakland and four against the Minnesota Twins. I forgot to mention in the blogs for the previous day's games that John Maine of the Mets becomes 20 game winner number three, beating the Nationals. Two pitchers (Maine and Tim Hudson) have gotten their 20th win off the Nats in less than a week. |

40,106 fans watched an exciting game at Rogers Centre. The Toronto Blue Jays
topped the Boston Red Sox by the slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.
Toronto scored the deciding run in the 8th inning. Matt Stairs smashed a
bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 18th of the season). Toronto managed only 5 hits
on the night.
The win was credited to Casey Janssen(8-2) who went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing
no runs. Kyle Snyder(3-2) was the losing pitcher in relief.
