| Daisuke Matsuzaka records his 200th strikeout of the season when he whiffs Nick Punto to end the 3rd inning, one of 9 K on the day for Dice-K. He leaves witha 3-1 lead and his 16th win seemingly in the bag as Mike Timlin comes in for the 8th. Timlin has no trouble in the 8th, and I leave him in for the 9th to give Paps a break after yesterday's blown save. However, Timlin cannot deliver and gets a blown save himself when Justin Morneau rips a 2-run homerun. The Sox come back in the bottom of the 9th, scoring the winning run on a Jason Varitek single. WILD PITCHES- M.Guerrier, D.Matsuzaka
amazing Boston Red Sox broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out
a 4 to 3 win over the Minnesota Twins and sending their hometown fans home
smiling.
Boston won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. David Ortiz
reached on an error. Matt Guerrier then let one slip out of his hand for a
wild pitch. After another out, J.D. Drew got his turn next, but he was a
strikeout victim. Kevin Youkilis was up next and he was walked
intentionally. Jason Varitek stepped into the box and slapped a single
giving Boston the victory as 37,585 happy fans celebrated wildly. For the
game Boston out-hit Minnesota 11 to 6.
Manny Delcarmen(5-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Guerrier(7-11) was the loser in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he
did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
