September 28, 2007 Phillies 7, Nationals 5

The Phillies begin their season ending series with the Nats on a winning note, as trailing 4-2 in the 6th inning Greg Dobbs launches one over the wall off of Jesus Colome for a grand slam homerun and Chase Utley adds his 20th homer of the year also off Colome in the 7th for a litt;e insurance. If the Phillies sweep the series, it will give the Nationals a 100 loss season.

Ryan Howard tied a rather dubious record today - most strikeouts by a batter in one season. His total of 195 after today ties him with Adam Dunn, who did it in 2004. The record will only last one season, as looking at the record book it was broken in 2008 by Mark Reynolds, with 204!! Howard in real life has 199 K in both '07 and '08, and Jack Cust whiffed 197 times in 2008. Bobby Bonds record of 189 stood for almost 35 years, and now 6 (only 4 players, as Dunn and Howard have done it twice) have gone above that total in the last 4 years!

In playoff news, a loss by the Cardinals and the Cubs 8th straight win ties them for the NL Central lead. A Giants win and the Padres and Mets both losing puts San Fran one game ahead of the Pads, with San Diego and the Mets tied for the wildcard with two games to go.

Greg Dobbs hit a grand slam as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the dreadful
Washington Nationals 7 to 5 at Citizen's Bank Park.

Dobbs helped send the fans home happy. He doubled in the 2nd inning and
brought the hometown folks to their feet with a Grand Slammer (his 13th of
the season) in the 6th inning. Although they lost, Washington did out-hit
Philadelphia 12 to 9.

Geoff Geary(2-8) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Geary
got help from Brett Myers who earned his 10th save. Jon Rauch(4-7) was the
loser in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk without retiring a batter.
