September 14, 2007 Yankees 7, Red Sox 6

Three Yankee homers, including back-to-back shots for Derek Jeter and Bobby Abreu in the 3rd inning, are part of Daisuke Matsuzaka's sloppy performance as he gets the loss against Andy Pettitte. Pettitte came into the game in a four-way time for the most losses in the majors with 16. A couple of nice performances for the Sox in the losing effort, with a 4 for 5 day by JD Drew and Jacoby Ellsbury with a 3 for 3, sac fly and walk effort.

The magic number for the Sox falls to 7 with another Blue Jay loss. Even with losing back to back games, the Sox are still closer to clinching each day!

One run was the difference at Fenway Park as the New York (AL) Yankees
defeated the Boston Red Sox 7 to 6.

Andy Pettitte(8-16) contributed a pedestrian performance to earn the win. He
went 6 and 2/3 innings surrendering 8 hits and 5 walks. Boston made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Mariano Rivera recorded the save, his 21st. Daisuke Matsuzaka(14-7) was hit
with the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 5 and 2/3 innings of
work.

Gary Lucas was in a sour mood after the game. 'Even you guys up in the press
box know why we lost this game. We made too many mistakes.'
