| Not quite as much of a slugfest, but Ryan Ludwick doesn't slow down any as with the Cardinals leading 3-1 in the 5th inning, Ludwick smokes his 5th homerun of the series, good for a 3-run shot, which puts the game out of reach and gives the Cards the victory. I was damn curious after all these homers, so I looked up Ludwick's stats for theseason. He had 19 homers in 291 at-bats during the regular season. That would average out to the 34-38ish range for a full-time player. In the real season he only had 14 homeruns in 303 atbats, so this kind of homer pace is a little surprising. I forgot to mention in the Sox blog who the MVP in the series is - Kenny Lofton. Lofton had a triple and big 2-run homer in game 3, and a double for 4 hits in 6 atbats overall for the series. |

The St. Louis Cardinals toppled the Atlanta Braves by a 7 to 3 score at Busch
Stadium.
Atlanta was unable to recover after St. Louis went ahead in the 3rd inning
with 2 runs on 4 hits. Aaron Miles started the inning off right when he
lined a one-base hit. Braden Looper was next and he laced a base-hit. David
Eckstein then laid down a sacrifice bunt. So Taguchi came up and he hit a
deep fly scoring a run. Albert Pujols stepped into the box and lined a
single, and an error was also committed, scoring the final run of the inning.
St. Louis ended up with 16 hits for the game while Atlanta had 8.
Looper(1-0) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. Looper got
help from Brad Thompson who earned his 1st save. Chuck James(0-1) was the
losing pitcher.
