| Another slugfest between the Braves and Cards in the light air of Atlanta, as the Cardinals jump out to a 6-1 lead and can't hang onto it and the Braves jump out in front 2 games to none. The Cardinals certainly can't blame Ryan Ludwick though. After yesterday's 3 for 4, 2 homer 6 RBI day he duplicates it today with a 4 for 5, 2 homer 5 RBI game. Overall in the two games for Ludwick, 7 for 9 with 4 homeruns and 11 RBI. Even if the Braves win the next game and sweep the series, no denying Ludwick series MVP honors with stats like that. After an off day the teams travel to St. Louis for game 3. Maybe jet lag will cool the offenses a little bit. |

The Atlanta Braves defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 11 to 8 at
Turner Field.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Kelly Johnson. He blasted a two-run home run (his 1st of the
season) in the 5th inning, tripled knocking in a run in the 6th inning and
delivered a single plating a run in the 7th inning. St. Louis was not
lacking for run support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory
eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win
ballgames.
Oscar Villarreal(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning.
Rafael Soriano recorded his 1st save. Russ Springer(0-1) took the loss in
relief. He surrendered 3 runs and no hits in 2/3 of an inning.
Ryan Ludwick blasted 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI but his offense was not enough
to carry St. Louis to victory.
