October 3, 2007 Indians 2, Red Sox 0 (Indians lead series 1-0)

Game 1 of the AL Division Series goes to the Cleveland Indians in agonizing fashion. Josh Beckett gets the tough luck loss as with two outs in the 3rd inning and runners on first and third, Manny Ramirez drops a fly ball which should have been the third out, scoring a run. Beckett gets unnerved and throws a wild pitch to the next batter allowing another run to score. Those would be the only two runs of the game. No earned runs for Beckett, no RBI's for the Indians.

The Red Sox get 9 hits off of the tandem of C.C. Sabitha and Joe Borowski as Manny gets 3 of them to try to attone for the error, but the Sox couldn't knock anyone home and strand 11 on the basepaths. Kevin Youkilis could have tied the game with a 2-run homer, but due to being an W against the lefty Sabitha only gets a single.

A chance for the Sox in the bottom of the 9th, as a Jason Varitek single with Alex Cora coming in to pinch-run, and a Coco Crisp single sends Cora to third with no outs. I had thought about trying a squeeze with Julio Lugo, but decided against it and Lugo strikes out. Dustin Pedroia hits a grounder to third and Cora can't advance for out number two, and Youk strikes out to end the game.

If you are wondering why Cora came in to pinch-run, after Manny's third hit of the game Ellsbury came in to pinch-run for him, tried to steal second on a 1-19 chance, and gets caught when it came up a 20!!

Game 2 starters - Fausto Carmona for the Indians and Daisuke Matsuzaka for the Red Sox.
