October 3, 2007 Braves 9, Cardinals 8 (Braves lead series, 1-0)

An unexpected wild shootout, 20 game winner Tim Hudson does not have his best stuff today and Cards starter Adam Wainwright gets injured in the 2nd inning. I decided to turn the injuries on for the playoffs to make it a little more realistic.

The Braves jumped out in front 6-2 and 7-4, but the Cards get 2 in the 7th and 2 more in the 9th on a Ryan Ludwick 2-run homer off Braves stopper Rafael Soriano (23 saves during the season) to take a 8-7 lead. Usually reliable Cardinals stopper Jason Isringhausen i(39 saves in regular season play) is anything but today, as he also gets roughed up for two runs as the Braves pull it out in the bottom of the 9th on a walk-off double by Yunel Escobar.

The entire 9th inning:

Mark Teixeira cracked a homer and had 2 RBI as the Atlanta Braves staged a
dramatic comeback over the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 9 to 8 at Turner
Field.

Atlanta came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits. Brian McCann led off and he doubled. Jeff Francoeur
was the next batter, but he struck out. One out later, Willie Harris came up
and he drew a walk. Yunel Escobar came up and he doubled resulting in a
mighty exciting win for Atlanta and the 45,816 home town fans in attendance.
Atlanta had 17 hits for the game and St. Louis had 11.

Rafael Soriano(1-0) went 2/3 of an inning allowing 1 run for the victory. The
losing pitcher was Jason Isringhausen(0-1) in relief. Ryan Ludwick ripped 2
homeruns and had 6 RBI but his offense was not enough to carry St. Louis to
victory.
