August 26, 2007 Padres 13, Phillies 6

The Phillies get 3 homeruns in the 1st inning to knock Tim Stauffer from the game and jump out to a 5-0 lead, but get clobbered the rest of the way outscored by San Diego 13-1. Eight homeruns between the two teams, and Phillie outfielders robbed the Pads of two others. Basically, a reversal of yesterday's game. Too much action to explain - the play account follows the box score.

The Phillies big chance to get back into the race comes up in the next 10 games, with 4 coming up at home against the first place Mets and three in Atlanta versus the wild card leading Braves. The Mets and Braves are in a virtual tie for the division and wildcard with the Phillies 18 back.

Speaking of division leaders, with about 30 games left time to start looking at magic numbers. The Angels are closest with a magic number of 16, they sit 18 games ahead of 2nd place Seattle, and the Sox are at 22 with a 10 1/2 game lead on the wild card leading Blue Jays. No one else has more than a 6 1/2 game lead in their division.

WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Jayson Werth robbed Milton Bradley of a Homerun!
Top 2nd: Aaron Rowand robbed Khalil Greene of a Homerun!

Shortstop Khalil Greene hit a homerun and had 2 RBI as the San Diego Padres
beat the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 13 to 6.

San Diego took the lead for good in the 6th inning scoring one runner using 2
hits. Greene cracked a solo homerun (his 16th of the season). Offensively,
San Diego was a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings.

The win was credited to Wil Ledezma(2-0) who went 4 innings allowing no runs.
Doug Brocail recorded the save, his 4th. Geoff Geary(1-5) took the loss in
relief.
