| With not quite the drama of this year's ALCS and even with Kevin Youkilis getting half of the Sox hits with a 4 for 4 day, the Sox fall to Tampa. The Devil Rays (still had the devil in them last season lol) get all the runs that they need in the first inning on a Delmon Young bases loaded single which plates 2 runs. Youk scores the Sox lone run coming home on a Mike Lowell RBI single in the 4th, and the Rays get a run in the 5th off of a Tim Wakefield wild pitch to complete the scoring. Carl Crawford had a big day on the Tampa side, going 4 for 5 and stealing two bases. Ten teams have less steals than Crawford's total of 45 for the year so far. Most amazing of all, Crawford has only been caught stealing once all season! Both Coco Crisp with 24 and Julio Lugo with 20 from the Sox have more steals each than the entire St. Louis Cardinals team (only 19!) |

Carl Crawford had 4 hits as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays outscored the Boston Red
Sox 3 to 1.
Tampa Bay drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
scoring 2 runners on 2 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for
James Shields(14-4) and Tampa Bay. That was all the run support Shields
required. Tampa Bay finished with 11 hits while Boston ended up with 8.
Al Reyes gained credit for his 19th save. The losing pitcher was Tim
Wakefield(8-11). He was unable to control the Tampa Bay offense and allowed
8 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Tampa Bay now has a record of 59-59. Boston has a record of 72-46 after the
loss.
