| In one of the most bizzare, strangest games I have ever had, the Sox come back from a 9-4 defecit after 6 inning by outscoring the Orioles 9-1 over the final 3 innings and win a slugfest. Josh Beckett was shelled, for 8 runs and 9 hits in only 2 2/3 innings to break his personal 6 game winning streak. Not that O's starter Garrett Olson was much better, as he had what is probably one of the most schitzophrenic starts in history. For the first 3 innings, Olson alows one hit, 4 runs, 2 strikeouts and 9 (yes, 9!) walks! Then, in his final 2 2/3 innings, he allows no runs, one walk, 5 hits and strikes out 6, for the total line score of...well, you can see it for yourself. The Sox didn't have more hits than runs until the 5th inning! How Olsen went 140 pitches and was not yanked sooner is beyond me. The Red Sox then come out swinging, getting 3 runs in the 7th, 2 in the 8th, and 4 in the 9th with those four runs scoring via a bases loaded walk, a wild pitch, a passed ball, and one the conventional way on a single. Hell, Coco Crisp just stood at home plate and watched two runs come across, one being the go ahead run! Oh, what the score could have been for the Red Sox with getting 16 hits and walking 13 times... BTW, the most walks in a game for a pitcher is 16 if you are wondering. The play account is after the box score. |

Julio Lugo had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Boston Red Sox staged a dramatic
comeback over the Baltimore Orioles by a score of 13 to 10 at Camden
Yards.
Boston scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning as they scored
4 runs on 4 base hits. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5
different innings was still not enough for Baltimore to come away with the
victory.
The win was credited to Hideki Okajima(6-6) who went 1 inning allowing no
runs. Jonathan Papelbon recorded his 32nd save. The losing pitcher was Danys
Baez(1-8) in relief. His ERA increased from 3.94 to 4.53 as he allowed 3
runs without retiring a batter.
'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Baez said. 'The bottom line is I didn't
get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
