June 30, 2007 Mets 8, Phillies 6

The agony continues. J. A. Happ, fresh up from the minors, goes 6 decent innings in his major league debut, leaving the game with a 4-3 Phillie lead, in line for his first major league win if the lead holds up. It was not to be. JC Romero, fresh from the Sox, pitches a 1-2-3 7th but allows a Carlos Delgado RBI double to tie the game in the 8th.

I then made a double switch that I would later regret. Michael Bourn got the start in left field, so when Antonio Alfonseca came in to pitch with two runners on base Pat Burrell took over in left field, batting in the 9 hole. The first batter Damion Easley rips a double over Burrell's head to score two runs (he is a 4 fielder) and give the Mets the lead. It got worse, as after an intentional walk and a strikeout Ricky Ledee rips one to left that Burrell can't handle, going as a 3 base error scoring two more runs for 5 Met runs in the inning. "Superman" Chris Coste (look at his batting average - 8 for 13 so far with six extra base hits!) would get a pinch-hit 2 RBI double in the 9th off Billy Wagner, but that would be all the Phils could get and lose by two runs.

This will be Happ's only start for the year, as he goes back to the minors before tomorrow's game. At least he didn't get the loss. In his actual real-life start, he allowed 7 hits and 5 runs in 4 innings, so at least he improved on that.

Second baseman Damion Easley cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the New York
(NL) Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 8 to 6 at
Citizen's Bank Park.

Easley was in a groove all day. The Philadelphia fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box. He ripped a solo home run in the 2nd inning,
delivered a solo blast (his 9th of the season) in the 4th inning and doubled
scoring two baserunners in the 8th inning. The game was a wild affair with
the lead changing hands 5 times.

Aaron Sele(3-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Billy Wagner
recorded the save, his 17th. J.C. Romero(0-2) took the loss in relief.

'I had good swings today,' Easley said, 'Everything felt right'.
