| The Sox go back to Fenway after a 9 game road trip, with Kevin Youkilis leading the offense with a double and 1st inning homer and Tim Wakefield racking up a season high 9 whiffs as the Sox beat the Rangers to begin a four-game set. Youk's homer tied the game at 1, and it stayed that way until Alex Cora comes through with a 2-run triple in the 7th. Wake does allow a leadoff single in the 8th, gives way to Hideki Okajima who allows the run to score but Paps comes in for the 1 1/3 inning, 3 K save for save number 21. All kinds of familiar faces on the Rangers, almost like a reunion of former teammates. We have Kenny Lofton, the Phils leadoff man in 05, ex-Expo/National Brad Wilkerson, ex- Phillie/National Marlon Byrd, and Ramon Vasquez, who spent part of 05 with the Red Sox. On the pitching staff is ex-Phillie Kevin Millwood (who will get a start later in the series), and soon to be Sox teammate Eric Gagne. Wait until you see the picture of the Rangers starter for this game, Jamey Wright. He looks like he is possessed! Either that or dead, one or the other. |

WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Tim Wakefield robbed Frank Catalanotto of a base hit.
First baseman Kevin Youkilis lofted one into the 'cheap seats' as the Boston
Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers by a score of 3 to 2.
In the bottom of the 7th inning Boston scored 2 runs. Manny Ramirez led off
and started the attack as he drew a walk. J.D. Drew next to the plate and he
banged out a single. Drew took second on the throw. Two outs later Alex
Cora came to the plate and tripled knocking home two runners. Texas
threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to put down the rally.
Tim Wakefield(5-8) allowed 2 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.
Wakefield got help from Jonathan Papelbon who earned his 21st save. Jamey
Wright(1-3) took the loss. He pitched 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 5 hits and
2 walks.
