| In another slugfest in game one of a doubleheader, the division-leading Mets get 2 runs in the top of the 10th and hold on to beat the Phillies. J. D. Durbin, making his Phillie debut, is knocked around for 5 runs and a 5-1 Met lead. The lead would reach 7-2 before the Phillies score 3 in the 7th, and 2 in the 8th to tie the game, leaving the bases loaded in the 8th. What is funny is that until Chris Coste's pinch-hit homerun in the 5th, the Phillies were hitless with a run on the board! The run came in the 1st inning, as after Michael Bourn and Ryan Howard both walk, I go for the successful double steal. Ramon Castro throws the ball over third base trying to get Bourn, and Bourn scores for one run on no hits! That is about the only way to get Ryan Howard a steal as we know, have him be the end runner in a double steal. Also with a steal for the Mets was old friend Ricky Ledee, a Phillie from 2002-04. The Phillies remain winless against the Mets so far on the season, now at 0-8. |

WEB GEMS- Top 10th: Chase Utley robbed Carlos Beltran of a base hit.
Jose Reyes went deep and had 2 RBI at Citizen's Bank Park as the New York (NL)
Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies in 10 innings by the count of 9 to
7.
Both teams were tied at 7 runs apiece after nine innings. New York (NL) came
out the victor in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, David Wright
began things off when he hit a bases-empty home run (his 9th of the season).
Carlos Delgado stepped into the batter's box and he slapped a base-hit.
After another out, Ramon Castro stepped in and he delivered a single scoring
the final run of the inning. New York (NL) ended up with 12 hits for the
game while Philadelphia had 9.
Aaron Heilman(6-1) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win.
Heilman got relief help from Scott Schoeneweis who gained credit for his 2nd
save. Geoff Geary(1-4) absorbed the loss in relief.
