| The Mets get the doubleheader sweep, smashing Cole Hamels for 4 homeruns and all 7 of their runs in the first 4 innings. Back to back blows in the 1st for Carlos Beltran and David Wright set the tone early, and despite solo runs for the Phils in the 1st and 2nd to tie the score the Mets went ahead for good with a 4 run 3th inning. Wright's second homer of the game, a 3-run shot, gets a good chunk of the runs and Paul lo Duca would add a homer in the 4th. The never-say-die Phillies do get 3 in the bottom of the 4th capped by a Greg Dobbs 2-run, pinch hit triple to make the score 7-5, but 7-5 would be the final as the pitchers took over from there. The gopher ball has been Hamels main problem all season so far, hence his 4-8 record. The 4 hit by the Mets today now gives Hamels the ignomious distinction of leading the majors in most homeruns given up at 26, one ahead of Randy Wolf of the Dodgers (another ex-Phillie!). That 26 total is one more than Hamels gave up in real life for the entire season, and this in about 80 less innings!! He had better shape up real soon, or the Phils are sunk. |

neither team was able to score.
The winning pitcher was John Maine(12-3) who allowed 5 runs in 7 innings.
Maine got relief help from Aaron Heilman who gained credit for his 3rd save.
