June 27, 2007 Red Sox 4, Mariners 1

Daisuke Matsuzaka and Julio Lugo help the Sox salvage one win in the series against the Mariners, 4-1 is the final. 6 1/3 one run, 8 strikeout innings for Dice-K, and a nice 2-run homer in the 3rd inning for Lugo, his 7th of the year. Lugo is only one shy of his actual 2007 homer total not even halfway through the season! Also with a homerun today is Mike Lowell, surprisingly powerless so far on the season. The homer is only the 5th of the year for Lowell, and the first for him in 25 games. Hideki Okajima goes the 9th to rest the recently struggling Jonathan Papelbon, and comes through for his 3rd save of the year.

Manny Ramirez, with an 0-fer today, has his hitting streak ended at an impressive 19 games, during which he upped his average over 20 points.

At SAFECO Field the Boston Red Sox snapped their 5 game slide and outscored
the Seattle Mariners 4 to 1.

Daisuke Matsuzaka(7-5) pitched a solid game. He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in
6 and 1/3 innings. Matsuzaka mowed down 8 Seattle batters. Boston finished
with just 6 hits in the victory.

Hideki Okajima earned his 3rd save. The loss was charged to Ryan
Feierabend(0-3). Despite losing, he struckout 8 Boston batters in 5 and 1/3
innings.

'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' Gary Lucas sighed. 'That win feels like a tall, cool
drink of water after spending far too much time in the desert lately.'
