June 21, 2007 Cubs 17, Rangers 3

In one of the more unusual line scores you will see, the Cubs do all their scoring in basically only two innings. 9 runs in the 2nd, 7 runs in the 8th, and a single run in the first inning. Also of note, of the 17 runs scored by the Cubs only 10 were earned due to 3 Ranger errors. Rangers reliever Willie Eyre has one of the strangest games that I have ever seen, with 3 1/3 innings, 3 hits, 5 walks, 5 strikeouts, and 5 runs allowed on 92 pitches - but his ERA isn't hurt at all as all five runs were unearned! The Rangers pitchers even recorded 13 strikeouts for the game, for almost half the outs via K.

All totalled for the Texas pitchers - 13 K, 16 hits, 17 runs 10 ER and 6 walks.

Ted Lilly was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete
game as the Texas Rangers were badly beaten by the Chicago (NL) Cubs, 17 to
3.

Chicago (NL) set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring a single
run. Chicago (NL) kept the scorekeepers busy in the 2nd inning when they had
9 runs on 5 hits and the 8th inning with 7 runs on 8 hits. Chicago (NL) had
a total of 16 hits for the game.

Lilly(6-5) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Vicente Padilla(3-6)
was given the loss. 'We really needed this win' said Lou Piniella. 'That
first drink of water at the end of a drought sure does taste good!'
