Gabbard gets one of the best starts for a Sox starter this season, allowing only 3 Tiger hits while reeling off 10 strikeouts. The Red Sox broke a scoreless tie in the 8th inning on a Manny RBI single, and get two insurance runs in the 9th on RBI singles for Alex Cora and Coco Crisp. Gabbard pitches into the 8th until allowing his third hit with two out, and Okajima finishes up for his 4th save of the year to give Papelbon a much deserved break after Paps went 3 innings in yesterday's 13 inning affair. |

Kason Gabbard reeled off a total of 10 strikeouts at Comerica Park as the
Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers by the count of 3 to 0.
Gabbard(2-0) was virtually untouchable. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and
1 walk in 7 and 2/3 innings seeing his ERA drop from 5.00 to 3.51. Boston
had 8 hits for the game and Detroit had 3.
Hideki Okajima earned his 4th save. Jason Grilli(4-6) absorbed the loss in
relief. Gabbard was asked about his big strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a
little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead of cheers and
a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and quiet. Just
strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the game.'
