July 1, 2007 Mets 10, Phillies 4

Only with the Phillies can a 3-run 1st inning homer and a 4-1 lead after 2 turn into a 10-4 drubbing. Ryan Howard had the 3-run blast in the 1st inning to get the Phils off to a promising start, but the Mets pour it on off the bullpen with 8 runs over the final 3 innings. Nobody could seem to get anybody out. With the bullpen already overworked, they just had to stay in to take their lumps. 4 runs off Brian Sanches in 1/3 of an inning, 2 runs off Jose Mesa in the 9th, even usually reliable Ryan Madson got knocked up for a couple of runs. 5th straight loss for the Phils, and the Mets get the 4 game sweep.

To make matters worse, the friendly confines of Citizens Bank Park will not be seen for a while as 13 of the next 16 games will be on the road. A six game road trip, the all-star break, a home series, and a 7 game road trip. Maybe the all-star break coming up soon will rest the weary bodies.
