| A's starter Joe Blanton is denied the chance of becoming the major leagues 2nd 10 game winner (the other is Matt Cain of the Giants at 10-0!) as the Sox get 3 runs in the 1st inning and cruise to the victory. The top three hitters in the lineup today (Crisp, Youkilis and Ortiz) all had 3 hits apiece in a nice spread around offense. Even with the loss, iron man Blanton still tosses the 138 pitch complete game, alowing 15 hits and 8 runs. Curt Schilling is fairly solid for the Sox in the victory, going 7 allowing only one run despite 4 walks. He lost the shutout bid when Jack Cust led off the 7th with a solo homerun. FYI, I still do have one other undefeated pitcher along with the 10-0 Cain, Kyle Loshe of Cincinnati who is 8-0. The interleague begins next, with the Sox in Arizona, at home against Colorado and San Francisco, and on the road against Atlanta and San Diego. |

First baseman Kevin Youkilis hit 2 doubles as the Boston Red Sox defeated the
Oakland Athletics by the score of 8 to 2 at McAfee Coliseum.
Boston wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring 3 runs
using 4 hits. Coco Crisp started the inning off right when he laced a
one-base hit. Crisp took off for second and slid in with a stolen base.
Youkilis then doubled resulting in a run. After an out was recorded, Manny
Ramirez stepped up to the plate and he banged out a single plating another
run. Joe Blanton then threw a wild pitch. J.D. Drew continued the rally and
stroked a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. That scoring would
be all that was needed. Boston out-hit Oakland for the game, 15 hits to 6.
The victory went to Curt Schilling(7-3) who went 7 innings, allowing 1 run.
Blanton(9-2) was charged with the loss. He allowed 15 hits and no walks in 9
innings.
