| The Sox get back on the winning track, winning a tight 6-5 battle. Most of the scoring was early in the game, as the A's led 5-4 after 3 innings off of a still rusty Dice-K. The Sox battle back thanks to David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez. Papi smashes 2 solo homers for the game, and Manny plays hero twice. First, his solo shot in the 7th gave the Sox the 6-5 lead which would hold up as the final score, then he saves the game in the bottom of the 9th. Paps on for the save attempt, but after a hit batter Milton Bradley slams one to left field on a 1-16 homer chance. I was like oh shit, there goes the game! But the split comes up an 18, and Manny makes the catch at the wall. It didn't count as a web gem, but a game-saving catch nonetheless. Also, has another pitcher strike out the side on 9 pitches. Santiago Casilla strikes out the side in the 6th (Pena, Lugo and Pedroia) to have the feat acomplished twice in two games. Speaking of Dustin Pedroia, he is now in the leadoff spot although leadoff has been unkind to Sox hitters so far this season. Lugo did nothing, Coco Crisp got hot and was moved to leadoff. Crisp slumped off and Lugo got hot, so Lugo went back to leadoff. Lugo sucked ass again, so Pedroia is up there now. He did get one hit today anyway. Apparently, the way to make a Sox batters hot streak end is to put them leadoff. Hopefully Pedroia will get comfortable up there, since no one else has. |

Designated hitter David Ortiz smacked 2 homeruns as the Boston Red Sox
defeated the Oakland Athletics 6 to 5 at McAfee Coliseum.
Daisuke Matsuzaka(6-3) pitched well enough to earn the win. He allowed 7 hits
and 1 walk in 6 innings and served up 2 'big flies'. A wild affair, this
game saw the lead change 5 times.
Matsuzaka got relief help from Jonathan Papelbon who gained credit for his
14th save. Santiago Casilla(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He was
stingy with the baserunners, allowing just 2 hits and no walks in 4
innings.
Boston now has a record of a division leading 31-26. With the loss Oakland
now has a record of 27-30, worst in the division.
