| Today was basically exactly the same as the previous game. A winless pitcher on the mound for the Indians (the 0-5 Cliff Lee yesterday, the 0-6 Jeremy Sowers today), a 2-run homer in the 2nd inning for the first runs of the game (JD Drew yesterday, Jason Varitek today), insurance runs later in the game (2 in the 8th yesterday, one in the 6th today), the starter going 7 good innings (Curt Schilling yesterday, Josh Beckett today) and Okajima and Papelbon going the 8th and 9th for the hold and save. Almost eerie how similar the two games were. Beckett was spectacular, only scattering 4 hits, a walk and a hit batter and striking out 10 in his 7 innings of shutout ball, Okajima a spotless 8th with 2 K, and Paps perfect in the 9th with one whiff. First shutout of the year for the Sox. |

Josh Beckett racked up an impressive total of 10 strikeouts at Fenway Park
where the Boston Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians by the score of 3 to
0.
Beckett(5-2) gave Boston a solid outing. He allowed just 4 hits and 1 walk in
7 innings lowering his ERA to 3.34. Boston had only 6 hits for the night.
Beckett got relief help from Jonathan Papelbon who gained credit for his 13th
save. The loss was charged to Jeremy Sowers(0-6). Everyone seemed to enjoy
the performance of Beckett - except Cleveland. Eric Wedge lamented, 'He just
was 'on' tonight. He was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game
by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans -
unfortunately we were the visitors!'
