| A bit of a lineup switch. With Julio Lugo continuing to suck at leadoff, I decided to have the over .300 Coco Crisp hit leadoff today, still keeping the speed at the top of the order. My plan is to have Crisp leadoff for now, have Lugo bat 8th and keep Dustin Pedroia 9th (Pedroia had today off). SInce Pedroia is also around .300, this way most of the time he will have Crisp batting after him instead of the around .200 Lugo, and more of a chance to advance bases. Also, with the slower guys like Varitek and Lowell around the 6-7 spots, Lugo will be after them and being the great bunter that he is might be able to advance them on bunts, since they can't run all that fast to advance more bases on hits. We will see how it goes. Neither Crisp nor Lugo had hits today, but it didn't matter with Youk and Papi around. Youkilis goes 4 for 5, scoring a run and Ortiz 2 for 3, 2 walks, and a big homer in the 7th that proved to be the difference in the game. Tim Wakefield, in a pitchers duel with Chein-Ming Wang, pitches a bit better than Wang as the Yankees didn't get a run until the 8th inning. Papelbon comes in with two outs in the 8th, does walk a batter, but get a grounder to end the inning and strikes out the side in the 9th for the save. The Sox hand Wang his first loss of the season. |
