June 3, 2007 Giants 4, Phillies 3

The Phillies never led the whole game, although they were tantalizingly close throughout and had a chance to win it in the 9th. The Giants scored runs all kinds of strange ways, with a Kevin Correia bases loaded squeeze for a run in the 7th and Ryan Klesko's trip around the bases in the 8th on a single, wild pitch, balk (both by Ryan Madson, on consecutive dice rolls!!) and would score on a hit.

And now for the interesting bottom of the 9th for the Phillies. With Brad Hennessey on the mound for the Giants, Carlos Ruiz leads off with a line out. Jayson Werth, pinch-hitting for Madson, walks. Next batter Jimmy Rollins also walks (he had struck out 3 times on the day previously) for runners on first and second. Shane Victorino hits what looks to be a game-ending double play ball, but beats the throw to first with Rollins out at second and Werth going to third. That puts the tying run on third, and the winning run at first with two outs. Chace Utley then walks for the third walk of the inning for Hennessey to load the bases and put the winning run in scoring position. The next batter is Ryan Howard who had a homer earlier in the game, just the man you want at the plate in a situation like that. Down by a run, bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, two outs. Almost storybook like. However, Howard cannot deliever as he strikes out to end the game as the Giants and Hennessey hold on for the win. Agonizing, just agonizing.
