| It took over a month, but the Phillies finally have their first multiple game winning streak of the season. Today was the battle of the elderly lefties, Jamie Moyer (44 years old) and Randy Johnson (43) who treated the fans to an intriguing pitchers duel. Moyer held the Diamondbacks to only one run through his 6 innings of work, but Johnson was whitewashing the Phils along with 10 strikeouts through the first five innings. The Phils finally get to the tiring Johnson in the 8th, when Pat Burrell hits a solo homer with two outs to tie the game, Ryan Howard walks, and Abraham Nunez singles. Tony Pena comes in to relieve Johnson, and Carlos Ruiz greets him with a 2-run triple for the 3-1 Phillie lead. Brett Myers converts his first save, even with Scott Hairston's homer in the bottom of the 9th. Final score - 3 to 2, Phils with the two game winning streak!! |

The Philadelphia Phillies edged the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field by the
score of 3 to 2.
Arizona lost it in the 8th inning when Philadelphia did all their damage
scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. After two were out Pat Burrell opened up the
scoring as he delivered a solo blast (his 5th of the season). Ryan Howard
came to the plate and drew a walk. Abraham O. Nunez then lined a single.
Carlos Ruiz stepped in and he tripled with two more runners crossing home.
Arizona had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
The win was credited to Clay Condrey(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
Brett Myers recorded his 1st save. Randy Johnson(3-1) was the loser. He
gave up 3 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings and saw his ERA jump from 0.81 to 1.50.
