May 5, 2007 Giants 7, Phillies 6

Ryan Klesko plays hero with a walk-off double in the bottom of the 9th as the Phillies lose AGAIN!!

The Giants started off strong with 3 runs in the 1st inning, but the Phils tied the game in the 2nd with 3 runs of their own on consecutive RBI singles by Abraham Nunez, Rod Barajas and pitcher Jon Lieber to tie it at 3. 2 more runs score in the Phillie 3rd to give them the 5-3 lead after Ray Durham muffs what should have been the third out and Wes Helms and Nunez hit consecutive RBI doubles. However, the Giants would get 3 runs in the 4th to retake the kead, 6-5.

The Phillie relievers take over, holding the Giants hitless over the 6th, 7th and 8th, but the Phils couldn't get anything going - until the top of the 9th. After a groundout Greg Dobbs and Shane Victorino single for runners on first and third. Aaron Rowand flies out for out number two, and it looks grim. But Jimmy Rollins comes through with a base hit to tie the game.

Geoff Geary comes in for the 9th, and after a groundout Dave Roberts singles and steals second. Since Roberts is the only runner that matters, next batter Rabdy Winn is intentionally walked to set up the doubleplay. It doesn't work, as Ryan Klesko smacks the double to score Roberts and gives the Giants the victory.

I guess when the team with the best record in baseball plays the team with the worst record in baseball, this will happen. Although in the actual season, the Phils started off slow too and they won the division, so the ship isn't sunk yet.
