| A fine, tight pitchers pitchers duel between Tim Wakefield and Carlos Silva turns into a Sox romp, as they score 7 runs over the final two innings to end the 5 game slide. After Torii Hunter's solo shot tied the game 2-2 in the 7th, all hell broke lose after that. In the Sox 8th, J.D.Drew doubled and Mike Lowell singled for runners on first and third. With Coco Crisp at the plate, I tried something I don't do too often - a squeeze! Crisp is safe at first (it counted as a single, as I went for the safety squeeze) as Drew scored to give the Sox the lead back. That seemed to wake up the sleeping giants, as Julio Lugo's sac fly later in the inning gives them a 4-2 lead. Brendan Donnelly faced the first 3 batters in the 8th, and lefty Hideki Okajima comes in to face lefty Jason Tyner, who he retires for the third out, with the intent on bringing on Papelbon for the 9th. Ol' Paps wasn't needed, as the Sox explode for 5 runs in the 9th with a Manny 2-run dinger, Alex Cora's RBI single and a 2-run single for Kevin Youkilis as Boston sends 10 men to the plate. Okajima stays in for the 9th for the cheap 7 run lead save as the Sox win and give Wake his first win of the season. |

The Boston Red Sox were certainly pleased to stop the bleeding as their 5 game
losing streak was finally halted and had very little trouble at Metrodome
downing the Minnesota Twins. The score was 9 to 2.
Tim Wakefield(1-4) gave Boston a solid outing. He went 7 innings surrendering
3 hits and 2 walks. Hideki Okajima was great in relief and recorded his 1st
save.
The loss was charged to Pat Neshek(1-4) in relief. He gave up 3 hits and no
walks without retiring a batter.
