| In a game where the Phillies led the whole way, Brett Myers blows his first chance at a save in his new role as closer as Tom Gordon goes to the disabled list when the Giants score 4 runs in the botom of the 8th and give the Phillies the worst record in the majors. Homeruns were a big part of the scoring for both teams, as Shane Victorino and Chase Utley went back to back in the 1st inning for a quick 3-0 Phillie lead. The Giants pecked away, with Kevin Frandsen smacking two homeruns, eventually making the game a 4-3 Phillie lead entering the 8th inning. Antonia Alfonseca comes in for the Phils, and gets the first out quick. Playing the percentages, lefty Fabio Castro comes in to face Barry Bonds, whom he walks. In comes Myers for the save chance. Bengie Molina singles, with Bonds going to second. Ray Durham comes in to pinch-run for Bonds, as Pedro Feliz doubles to score Durham and tie the score 4-all. With first base open and one out, Omar Visquel is intentionally walked to lead the bases and set up the possible DP. Apparently after the intentional walk, Myers forgot where the strike zone was and walks Fransden and Ryan Klesko, both scoring runs to make it 6-4, Giants lead. Myers then throws a wild pitch to score Visquel (Visquel just walked around the bases, as he got to first on the IBB, went to second and third on regular walks, and scored on a wild pitch!!) for the 7-4 lead. Myers intentionally walks Dave Roberts to set up the DP again, and Ryan Madson comes in and gets the next two outs uneventfully. The Phillies go down 1-2-3 in the 9th, and the Giants steal the win. Myers line for the day: 0 IP, 2 hits, 3 runs, 4 walks (2 intentional) and gets the loss. |

Kevin Frandsen rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at AT&T Park as the San
Francisco Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the count of 7 to
4.
Frandsen enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He blasted a solo shot in the
3rd inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 3rd of the season) in the
5th inning and slapped a one-base hit in the 7th inning. Both teams ended up
with 10 hits on the night.
Steve Kline(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Kline
was helped out by Brad Hennessey who recorded his 6th save. Brett Myers(1-3)
was the losing pitcher in relief.
