May 2, 2007 Phillies 5, Braves 4

A 12-hit attack and some stellar Phillie defense late in the game gives them the win and their first winning series of the season. A surprising pitchers duel between Freddy Gaicia and Chuck James in the early stages, but the Braves bullpen blows it specifically Chad Paronto. The Phillies get to him for 4 runs in two innings, with Wes Helms 2-run single in the 6th being the big blow.

The Braves tried to mount the comeback though, as Andruw Jones rips a 2-run shot off Tom Gordon in the 8th, but Gordon and the Phillies hold on.

Check out the web gems - you will see what I mean by the stellar defense late. It could have been a much different score otherwise.

The Philadelphia Phillies edged the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field by the
score of 5 to 4.

Philadelphia came up with 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning with the help of
3 hits. The big moment was provided by Wes Helms who helped quiet the crowd
when he laced a single which was good for two runs. Atlanta went down
without a fight in the bottom of the 9th.

Freddy Garcia(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing
2 runs. Garcia got relief help from Tom Gordon who gained credit for his 5th
save. Chad Paronto(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He gave up 4 runs
in 2 innings of work.
