He had a chance in the 10th to win the game, but his smash to right was caught at the wall by Magglio Ordonez. The Boston Red Sox edged the Detroit Tigers in 13 innings at Fenway Park by
the score of 5 to 4.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Boston won the hard fought
contest in the 13th inning. David Ortiz delivered a solo blast (his 9th of
the season) resulting in an exciting win for Boston and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans. Boston and Detroit each finished the
afternoon with 10 hits.
Javier Lopez(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Jason
Grilli(3-3) was given the loss in relief. Boston continued their winnings
ways improving their record to 20-19. They are 8-2 in their last ten games.
Detroit can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a
miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.
