| In a 134 pitch effort, Joe Blanton of the A's held the Sox in check most of the game and goes the distance. David Ortiz did go 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, Manny 2 for 4 and Dustin Pedroia 2 for 3, but none of the hits ran together to generate enough offense. One of Papi's doubles did knock in a run, as did a Mike Lowell single, both in the 4th inning. Neither team scored after that, as Blanton held off the Sox while Sox starter Curt Schilling settled down after allowing 3 runs in the first 3 innings. Timlin and Okajima held off the A's over the final three innings, but the Sox couldn't push across a run to tie the game. |

Eric Chavez had 2 base hits and Joe Blanton allowed Bob Geren to rest his
bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Oakland Athletics defeated the Boston
Red Sox by a score of 3 to 2 at Fenway Park.
Oakland drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
scoring a single run. Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning.
Blanton(5-1) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. Curt
Schilling(1-3) suffered the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks in 6
innings.
