April 29, 2007 Marlins 18, Phillies 12

Yes you read that score correctly. In one of the wildest games I have ever had, balls were flying out of and all around the park and over fielders heads today. 30 runs, 31 hits and 5 errors between the two teams. Normally, when your team scores 12 runs you can pretty much guarantee victory. Not today!

Rather than try to explain everything, I will put the play account after the box score and give you the highlights. Of the 5 errors, twice the Phils and once the Marlins threw balls over the catcher trying to nail runners scoring, all three times resulting in the runner going to third scoring on the overthrow. Fours were wild for the Marlins, as they scored four runs in in the 3rd, 5th, 6th and 8th innings. Three was good for the Phils, as they scored 3 runs in the 3rd, 6th and 8th.

On the Marlins side, Miguel Cabrera goes 3 for 4 with two homeruns (including a grand slam), 5 RBI and scored 4 times. Matt Treanor goes 4 for 5, knocks in 5 and scores 3. Aaron Boone 4 for 5, scores 3 times. For the Phils, Ryan Howard 3 for 3 with a homer, 3 walks and 3 runs scored. Chase Utley goes 3 for 5, a homer (he and Howard went back to back in the 3rd), 4 RBI and scored 3. The pitching was non-existent, as it seemed like whoever got thrown out there got nailed on both sides. A memorable game, but unfortunately the Phillies ends up on the losing end and STILL do not have a multiple game win streak for the season.

And they won the division last year, don't forget! Why they are doing so bad, I don't know. The pitching has totally sucked, the batting has come around recently, but unless the pitching improves pretty quick there might be more games like this. Getting aggrevating, let me tell you.

WEB GEMS- Top 6th: Jayson Werth robbed Josh Willingham of an extra base hit.

Third baseman Miguel Cabrera ripped 2 homeruns at Citizen's Bank Park as the
Florida Marlins beat the Philadelphia Phillies 18 to 12.

Cabrera provided much of the offense. He lashed a single in the 1st inning,
delivered a solo blast in the 3rd inning and emptied the bases with a Grand
Slam homerun (his 5th of the season) in the 8th inning. Florida bats were
hot in the 3rd inning with 4 runs on 4 hits, the 5th inning with 4 runs on 3
hits, the 6th inning with 4 runs on 3 hits and the 8th inning which saw them
plate 4 runs on 4 hits. Despite scoring in 5 separate innings, Philadelphia
could not get the win.

Wes Obermueller(1-0) got the win allowing 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings. The
losing pitcher was Jamie Moyer(1-2). He allowed 3 homeruns in 4 and 1/3
innings of work.
