April 26, 2007 Nationals 5, Phillies 0

Shawn Hill pitches a masterpiece and Brian Schneider slams a 3-run homer as the Nats prove too much for the Phillies to handle. Hill only allowed three baserunners for the game - Jimmy Rollins' leadoff single in the first, Wes Helms reaching on an error by Hill in the 3rd, and a Chase Utley single in the 4th. Nine strikeouts along the way for Hill, and he retired the last 15 batters to face him. I thought he might have stayed in for the shutout attempt, but Chad Cordero comes in for the 9th in a non-save situation and retires the Phils 1-2-3 for the last 18 straight Phils not reaching base and no Phillie advancing past first base the entire game..

The Phillie relievers come through strong for once holding the Nats hitless over the final four innings as all the damage was done off of Cole Hamels, who drops to 1-4. Not quite the 10-0 start of last season for Hamels this year.

The Phillies now have the dubious distinction of having the worst record in the major leagues at 6-15. Also, the Giants won again for a 15 game winning streak and counting.

Shawn Hill had a strong outing as the Washington Nationals defeated the
Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 5 to 0 at Citizen's Bank
Park.

Washington drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
scoring one runner. That early scoring was all that Hill(2-1) needed.
Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning.

Cole Hamels(1-4) absorbed the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 8 hits
and 3 walks in 5 innings.
