The Washington Nationals nipped the Philadelphia Phillies 6 to 5 at Citizen's
Bank Park in a hard fought contest.
Washington had the winning rally in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 2
base hits. After an out was recorded, Ronnie Belliard started the rally when
he slapped a base-hit. Ryan Zimmerman was next and he drew a walk. Dmitri
Young then lofted a three-run bomb (his 5th of the season). Philadelphia
threatened in the 9th but Washington was able to put down the rally.
Jon Rauch(1-1) allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Chad Cordero earned the save, his 3rd. Geoff Geary(0-1) was the
loser in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits and 1
walk.
With this win, Washington has a 11-9 record. They have been 6-4 lately. With
the loss, the Philadelphia ballclub's record is 5-14, worst in the division.
