April 22, 2007 Red Sox 6, Yankees 3

The Red Sox take the rubber game against the Yanks with the 6-3 win. An unusually wild Dice-K allows the Yanks 2 runs in the first without a hit, as he walked Damon, Jeter and Abreu to lead off the game. Damon and Jeter scored on two consecutive groundball C's for two runs on zero hits. The Yankees upped the lead to 3-0 before the Sox woke up. Big Papi with a 2-run homer in the 4th, a Julio Lugo homer and a Manny RBI double in the 6th, and a Wily Mo Pena 2-run shot in the 8th account for the scoring. Dice-K ends up going 6, with Pinero, Okajima and Papelbon an inning each with Paps getting save number five.

Interesting play by the Yankees in the 8th. With Kevin Thompson (who pinch-ran for Doug M.) on third and Melky Cabrera at first, they try the squeeze play with one out. The bunt is missed, and Thompson is out at home. At the time the Sox led 4-3, so that was quite pivotal as the Sox got two more in the bottom of the 8th.

Designated hitter David Ortiz left the yard and had 2 RBI as the Boston Red
Sox defeated the New York (AL) Yankees 6 to 3 at Fenway Park.

Boston went ahead for good in the bottom of the 6th inning with 2 runs using 3
hits. Julio Lugo began the Boston spurt when he smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly' (his 3rd of the season). Kevin Youkilis next to the plate and he
drew a walk. Ortiz dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Manny
Ramirez was up next and he doubled scoring the final run of the inning.
Daisuke Matsuzaka(3-1) was helped out by Jonathan Papelbon who pitched a
perfect ninth and recorded his 5th save.

Chase Wright(1-1) was charged with the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 4 hits in
5 and 1/3 innings.
