| The Phillies play their third home opener of the season (their own in the first game of the season, April 6th against the Marlins, and today), and despite another solid start from Cole Hamels it ends on a losing note. John Maine held the Phils in check all game, only allowing 3 hits and going the distance. The Phils had chances though, as they left the bases loaded in the 2nd and had 5 walks for the game, but three double plays turned by the Mets saved them. Carlos Delgado was the Mets hitting star, with two homers for the day, a solo shot off Hamels and a 2-run insurance homer in the 8th off Geoff Geary. Maine threw 138 pitches to get the shutout. Phils off to another slow start at 2-5. |

John Maine shut down the Philadelphia batters on just 3 hits and first baseman
Carlos Delgado ripped 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Shea Stadium where the New
York (NL) Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 4 to
0.
Delgado made sure the New York (NL) fans enjoyed themselves. He lofted a
solo-blast 'downtown' in the 6th inning and popped a two-run clout over the
fence (his 3rd of the season) in the 8th inning. New York (NL) had just 6
hits for the afternoon.
Maine(1-1) was credited with the shutout. The losing pitcher was Cole
Hamels(1-1). 'Everything felt great' Maine said. 'I had a good fastball, I
felt I could throw it by everybody today.'
