April 5, 2007 Red Sox 13, Royals 1

Daisuke Matsuzaka's major league debut goes off without a hitch, and the offense gives him plenty of support as the Sox sweep the Royals and go to 3-0 on the season. A 16-hit attack was more than enough for Dice-K, who goes 7 solid innings scattering 5 hits and striking out 7.

Manny's 2 early homeruns gave the Sox a 3-0 lead, and the Sox broke the game open with a 9 run, 12 batter 7th inning. The runs scored as follows: single runs scoring on a Coco Crisp single, Dustin Pedroia single, Julio Lugo single, and a David Ortiz double. Mike Lowell's 3 RBI triple and Jason Varitek's 2 run homer capped the inning.

On another note, the Minnesota Twins are also 3-0 by sweeping the Baltimore Orioles. What is amazing about that is the Twins won the three games by scores of 1-0, 6-0 and 2-0, meaning the Orioles did not score a run the entire series, and therefore have not scored a run yet this season!!

Left fielder Manny Ramirez launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Kauffman
Stadium as the Boston Red Sox embarrassed the Kansas City Royals by the
lopsided score of 13 to 1.

Ramirez enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He smashed a two-run homer in the
1st inning, lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 2nd of the season) in the 4th
inning, ripped a base-knock in the 7th inning and doubled in the 8th inning.
Boston out-hit Kansas City for the game, 16 hits to 7.

The winning pitcher was Daisuke Matsuzaka(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 7 innings.
Zack Greinke(0-1) was the loser. 'They made a couple of mistakes and I took
full advantage,' Ramirez said 'next time I'm sure they'll pitch me tougher.'
