| The Phillies drop the rubber game in a 13-8 shootout despite whipping Braves starter Chuck James for 8 runs in 4 1/3 innings to stake themselves out to an 8-3 lead. A very ineffictive bullpen allowed the Braves to score 10 runs over the final two innings to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Alfonso Alfonseca allowed 6 runs without retiring a batter, and Ryan Langerhans socked a 3-run homer in the 9th off Ryan Madson to score two runners that Madson inherited from Clay Condrey's suckness. Langerhans also hit a 2 run double in the 8th for 5 RBI over the final two innings. The Braves bullpen, however, holds the Phils for the final 4 2/3 innings to only 2 hits and 3 walks. No lack of baserunners in the game, with a combined total between the two teams of 23 hits, 16 walks, and 21 runs scored. |
