| The restart goes better for the Sox with the 5-2 win. Royals starter Gil Meche retired the first 12 batters along with Mike Tehan and Alex Gordon solo homers to give the Royals the 2-0 lead through 4, but the Sox get runs in the 5th and 6th with a Coco Crisp single and an Ortiz sac fly to tie the game. Julio Lugo blasts a 3-run homer in the top of the 7th to cap the offense. Kyle Snyder, Hideki Okajima and Jonathan Papelbon would hold the Royals hitless over the final four innings to preserve the win. |

At Kauffman Stadium the Boston Red Sox outscored the Kansas City Royals 5 to
2.
Boston tallied 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning. The key at-bat was by
Julio Lugo who silenced Kauffman Stadium as he smacked a three-run homer (his
1st of the season). The Kansas City batters went down meekly in the bottom
of the 9th.
The winning pitcher was Kyle Snyder(1-0) who allowed no runs in 2 innings.
Snyder got relief help from Jonathan Papelbon who gained credit for his 1st
save. David Riske(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. He gave up 3
runs in 2 and 2/3 innings of work.
