| Another fairly solid start for Tim Wakefield ends up one more in the loss collumn, thanks to no run support. Angels starter John Lackey came within one out of a two-hit shutout, at one point retiring 20 straight between J. D. Drew's one out single in the second and Eric Hinske's pinch-hit leadoff single in the 9th. Lackey started to tire in the 9th, hitting Youk and walking Papi bringing Justin Speirer into the game to face Manny with the bases loaded and two outs. One swing of the bat to tie the game. That big swing never came, though. Oh sure, Manny swung, and swung, and swung missing all three times for the big K and gives the Angels the win. |

John Lackey delivered 8 and two third solid innings at Fenway Park where the
Los Angeles(AL) Angels beat the Boston Red Sox 4 to 0.
Los Angeles(AL) jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring one
runner utilizing 2 base hits. The early run support proved sufficient for
Lackey(1-0) and Los Angeles(AL). That was all the run support Lackey
required. Los Angeles(AL) finished with 9 hits while Boston ended up with 2.
Lackey got help from Justin Speier who earned his 3rd save. The loss was
charged to Tim Wakefield(0-2). He allowed 6 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 1/3
innings.
